MCAN Climate Education Meeting
May 29, 2013 @ 8:00 pm - 9:30 pm
In 2008 Massachusetts passed two major pieces of climate related legislation. The Global Warming Solutions Act (GWSA) required the state to set 2020 and 2050 greenhouse gas reduction targets and develop a plan to hit those targets, and the Green Communities Act (GCA) greatly accelerated energy efficiency work in Massachusetts and created the Green Communities Program incentivizing Massachusetts cities and towns to go green.
Join the Massachusetts Climate Action Network (MCAN) and representatives from the Massachusetts Department of Energy Resources (DoER) on May 29th for an update on Massachusetts’ progress and plans for the future.
- Steven Clarke, Assistant Secretary for Energy, will be speaking on the Climate Plan/Global Warming Solutions Act
- Lisa Capone, Deputy Director of Green Communities at DoER, will be speaking on the Green Communities Act
Following Steven and Lisa’s presentations, MCAN Executive Director Rob Garrity will lead a discussion of important topics in climate change, including the latest on fracking, Keystone, and state legislative issues.
Attendence is free, light refreshment served. All are welcome.
The meeting will be held at the Arlington Senior Center at 27 Maple St, Arlington, MA 02476 from 8:00 pm to 9:30 pm on Wednesday, May 29th.
The Massachusetts Climate Action Network is a coalition of over 40 community-based organizations in Massachusetts working on climate and sustainability issues (Green Needham is an MCAN member). MCAN holds regular meetings in member communities around the region to encourage participation and allow chapter members from different communities to meet and to share ideas and experiences. All are invited to participate. There is no cost to attend.
