Needham schools will be celebrating Massachusetts Walk to School Day on Wednesday, May 5, 2010. All public schools in Needham will be joining schools from across the state to celebrate the fourth annual Massachusetts Walk to School Day.

Two thousand students from our town are expected to walk to school that day along with parents, teachers and community leaders. Each school will organize its own special event to encourage participation in the May 5th walk and to prep students and parents for a fun-filled month of walking and biking events as part of the May  Needham in Motion initiative.

All the elementary schools along with Pollard Middle School are partner schools with the Mass Safe Routes to School program, along with over 250 other schools across the state. Walk to School events work to create safer routes for walking and bicycling and emphasize the importance of issues such as increasing physical activity among children, pedestrian safety, traffic congestion, concern for the environment and building connections between families, schools and the broader community.
