Green Needham’s Plastic Waste Reduction Group is working toward passing a Plastic Bag Ban by-law for our town.  We will be having a planning meeting on Wednesday, June 22nd from 7-8:30PM, and invite anyone interested in helping to join us.  We will devise a plan to reach out to Town Meeting members to get their help in encouraging our Select Board to add the by-law to the October warrant for a vote. Our larger goal is to motivate people to bring reusable bags when shopping, so we will also discuss ways to encourage this change in behavior including: adding signage at stores as reminders, discussing the feasibility of adding a fee for paper bags, and ways to involve students in elementary, middle and high school to help spread the word.

In addition, our group aims to educate Needhamites on the negative impact of single-use plastics on climate change, human health, and the environment.  To that end, we are working on a Public Service Announcement, and will also host guest speakers to raise awareness about this important topic.
