According to NASA, in the United States more surface area is covered by lawn than by any other single irrigated crop. Lawns require irrigation, fertilizer, and pesticides to thrive in our climate, and there are alternatives to the traditional lawn worth exploring.
On Friday morning, September 15, 2017, at the Needham Library, the League of Women Voters of Needham will welcome Mark Richardson, New England Wild Flower Society’s Botanic Garden Director, to speak about “Environmentally Friendly Lawn Alternatives” at our first Friday Forum of the year.
He will present alternatives to traditional lawns and how you can make your yard both beautiful and environmentally friendly. He will also offer practical how-to advice on how to create and maintain a yard with native plantings. A question and answer period will follow.
Refreshments will begin at 9:15 am and the forum will start at 9:30 am. All Friday Forums are free and open to the public.
