The GO GREEN Needham Expo is just 2 weeks away, and we have an exciting program planned! On Saturday, November 10, Green Needham, the League of Women’s Voters Needham, and the Needham Department of Public Works will fill Needham Town Hall with fun, insight, and bright ideas on how you can go green in more ways than one – reducing your carbon footprint while putting money in your pocket.
Outside, there will be electric car test rides from Chevrolet, Toyota, Honda, and other carmakers, as well as electric bikes from GeoOrbital and Landry’s. Needham Garden Center will be giving visitors the chance to test out powerful electric garden tools from the EGO line that they carry in their store. Landry’s will also be on hand for a free bike tune up clinic. Bring your bikes that are in need of tuning!
In the Selectmans room inside Needham Town Hall, we have organized five presentations on a range of sustainability topics, including the impact of climate change and our options for addressing it, the current state of legislation to address climate change in Massachusetts, information about the state’s Green Community program, and presentations on a Net Zero Energy home and sustainable gardening.
Upstairs in Powers Hall, we have over 30 exhibitors organized around the themes of green transportation, the outdoors, taking action, food choices, home energy, and zero waste. Sign up for home energy audits with Home Works Energy; switch your electricity to green alternatives with Green Energy Consumers Alliance; protect pollinators with the Boston Bee Company; inquire about sustainable lawns and gardens with Organic Soil Solutions and Hartney Greymont; investigate solar options with NEC Solar, or geothermal energy from Green Energy Mechanical; learn about energy efficient heat pumps with Boucher Energy Systems, Inc.; sign up for residential composting with Bootstrap Compost.
And, there a great activities for kids, too, such as making a worm compost farm, racing solar cars, making music out of junk, learning about bike safety, and playing a recycling sorting game.
We will be asking visitors to take at least 5 actions while at the GO GREEN Needham Expo, and those that do will be able to enter into a drawing for one of over a dozen door prizes, including landscape design consultation, bike safety equipment, hair salon packages, reusable tumblers and straws, and more.
We welcome everyone, and hope you bring the whole family, and friends. Come find out just how easy, economical, and FUN it is to go green!
