MBTA Public Meeting about Needham Line Improvements
August 24, 2017 @ 6:30 pm - 7:30 pm
The MBTA is sponsoring a public meeting to explain improvements being implemented this fall on the Needham Commuter Rail Line, and highlight alternative MBTA travel options during weekend shutdowns. The meeting will be held on Thursday, August 24 at 6:30 p.m. in Powers Hall (on the second floor of Needham Town Hall, 1471 Highland Avenue.)
What’s going on? – From September 2 – November 18, there will be no train service on weekends while a new train safety control system is installed on the Needham Commuter Rail line. This is a federally-mandated upgrade that will prevent human error, and reduce train collisions and derailments.
To effectively meet deadlines required by the Federal Railroad Administration the MBTA must shutdown weekend service beginning September 2, 2017 through November 18, 2017. Weekday service will not be impacted.
