Aerosol Cans (11/2022)

RTS NEEDHAM

Needham residents with an RTS sticker can put empty aerosol cans into the commingle bin in the Main Area. Partially empty cans that contain Household Hazardous Waste, such as pesticides, herbicides, etc., should be disposed of at a Household Hazardous Waste Day, which is free to all Needham residents. Mass Save

If you have an old, inefficient working refrigerator or freezer, check and see if Mass Save has a current rebate offer, which may include picking it up at no cost to you and paying you an incentive ($75 in Nov. 2022). See details here.

Boston Building Resources

The Reuse Center at Boston Building Resources is a charitable nonprofit that accepts donations of new and gently used materials for resale. They accept showroom-quality appliances:  less than seven years old, except for gas ranges  (up to 10 years old) and SubZero refrigerators (up to 15 years old) as well as surplus building materials. Before donating, be sure to check their detailed donation guidelines. They ask that you fill out a Materials Donation Offer Form. Pick-ups may be arranged for a fee.

Habitat Restore

Accepts donations of large and small working appliances (no older than 8 years), usable building materials, home improvement items, kitchen cabinets, furniture and other home items, and resells them to the public at discounted prices. All sales benefit Habitat for Humanity Greater Boston. Click here for a list of acceptable materials and drop-off hours. ReStore staff have final say on all donations based on the condition of the item(s) and the store’s needs. Call or email if you are unsure or if you would like to set up a pick-up for qualifying items.

Salvation Army

Pick-up service for working refrigerators and freezers is offered. Call 800-SA-TRUCK (800-728-7825) or schedule online. Smaller appliances may be dropped off at a store.

Savers

Accepts good quality small appliances, such as toasters, blenders, mixers, irons, radios, etc. Also accepts children’s clothing, toys, stuffed animals, household items, hardback and paperback books, CDs, Videos, DVDs, vinyl records, computer software, and more. See their donation list. (They point out on their website that the “Community Donation CenterTM attendants may politely refuse items we are unable to accept on behalf of local nonprofits.”

Best Buy will pick up and recycle an old major appliance for $39.99 when they deliver a new replacement product. (Click on “Major appliances.”) Stand-alone pickup without a qualifying appliance purchase: For $199.99, they haul away and recycle up to a total of 2 large products (including TVs, major appliances, all-in-one computers and monitors), along with an unlimited number of select smaller products. Aseptic Packaging and other cartons (11/2022)

Milk and juice cartons, juice boxes, and aseptic cartons are no longer recyclable at the Needham RTS. If you’d like to know more about why cartons are not accepted in most recycling programs in MA, read this article from Resource Recycling.
