Did you know that:
- Energy use for lighting in the new High Rock School is 35% less than code thanks to high efficiency lighting and extensive use of natural light?
- School buildings designed to a higher standard of energy and environmental performance are eligible for reimbursement of an additional 2% of eligible construction costs from the MSBA?
- The geothermal heating and cooling system at the Public Service Administration building uses no fossil fuels on site?
- All the stormwater runoff from the PSAB is collected in underground cisterns and recharges the local aquifer?
This information, and much more, was covered during Better by Design – Energy Efficiency in Needham’s Public Construction Projects at Green Needham’s November 26th meeting.
Using the High Rock School and the Public Services Administration Buliding as case studies,
- Hank Haff of Needham’s Public Facilities Construction Division
- Rick Rice of DiNisco Design Partnership (project architect for the High Rock School) and
- Mike Fields of Winter Street Architects (project architect for the Public Services Admiinstration Building)
explained the who, how, what and when of designing and building energy efficient buildings for Needham.
If you missed the meeting, you can view the presentation here and will soon be able to see a rebroadcast of the meeting on The Needham Channel.
