Volante Farms was one of the first retail outlets to eliminate single-use plastic bags during Green Needham’s campaign – even though they were not required to do so under the Select Board’s voluntary program for large retail outlets. Since then, Volante Farms has encouraged reusable bag use by creating and selling a series of attractive reusable canvas tote bags.
Their latest creation is decorated with the beautiful watercolors of local artist Julia Greenway: an image of a radish adorns one side with a yellow iris blossom embellishing the other.
Volante Farms has chosen to donate the proceeds of all sales of these bags through September to Green Needham.
Green Needham appreciates this support and we are especially pleased that every bag sold means more people choosing renewable bags for their shopping.
The bags are available at Volante Farms’ Needham farmstand and online at shop.volantefarms.com for $12.99 each. Pick up a bag today, support Green Needham and thank Volante Farms for their efforts!
As a fourth generation family business, Volante Farms has long been dedicated to sustainability, They received the Newton-Needham Chamber’s Green Business award in 2013. Just in the last two years, Volante Farms took advantage of the business energy savers program to installed LED lighting and added solar panels to one of the barns and the roof of the farmstand to power the new lighting in the stand and greenhouse, along with much of the farm operations.
Artist Julia Greenway’s family has lived in Needham for over a hundred years. She paints from her home studio, shows locally and in Maine, and works for Volante Farms in their greenhouse.
