Climate scientists are increasingly sounding the alarm about the need for bold action to address climate change. The October Special Report by the International Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) and the Fourth National Climate Assessment by the U.S. Government have re-energized the discussion of the unprecedented challenge we face.
On Wednesday, June 5, at 7:30 p.m. Dr. Rachel Cleetus, Climate and Energy Policy Director at the Union of Concerned Scientists, will speak on Urgency and Opportunity: What the Latest Climate Science Tells Us. The presentation will take place at Temple Beth Shalom, 670 Highland Ave. in Needham.
Dr. Cleetus will put the latest scientific findings in perspective: What’s new in the recent climate reports? What are our best options to prevent the catastrophic scenarios in the reports? How can we summon the political and social will to take the actions necessary? The free program is sponsored by Green Needham Collaborative, the League of Women Voters of Needham, Temple Beth Shalom’s Shomrei Adamah Committee, and the Needham Chapter of Mothers Out Front.
The forum will include a showing of several award-winning short videos from Needham High School students from the 2019 League of Women Voters of Massachusetts Climate Change Challenge Video Contest.
