We are in the midst of a climate emergency. Young people in all parts of the world, fearing for their futures, are planning a week of climate action from September 20-27 to demand bold measures to transition away from fossil fuels. Green Needham Collaborative urges its supporters to join the young people in their efforts. In Boston the main event will be the Boston Climate Strike, organized and led by young people. Adults are asked to come and stand in solidarity with the youth. The strike will take place at Boston City Hall Plaza on Friday, September 20. Tentative schedule is preliminary activities 10:00-11:30 a.m., main rally 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m., march to State House 1-1:30 p.m., and action at State House 1:30-2:30 p.m. Follow the Boston Climate Strike Facebook page to keep updated on details and RSVP to the Action Network page to receive email updates.

The September 20 Boston Climate Strike is part of a week of global climate events which coincide with the September 23, 2019 UN Climate Action Summit at the UN Headquarters in New York City.
According to the website of the UN Climate Action Summit: “Global emissions are reaching record levels and show no sign of peaking. The last four years were the four hottest on record, and winter temperatures in the Arctic have risen by 3°C since 1990. Sea levels are rising, coral reefs are dying, and we are starting to see the life-threatening impact of climate change on health, through air pollution, heatwaves and risks to food security. . . . But there is a growing recognition that affordable, scalable solutions are available now that will enable us all to leapfrog to cleaner, more resilient economies.”
Let us join with youth all over the world to demand that solutions be implemented.
