The GO GREEN Needham campaign, launched in 2018 by Green Needham Collaborative and the Needham League of Women Voters, highlights green practices by local businesses and organizations and encourages participants to take next steps towards sustainability.
Every year for the past five years, I have been one of the many area parents taking part in Parent Talk’s semi-annual Clothing, Toy, and Equipment Sale. As a busy mother, it’s been a huge convenience to travel only a few minutes away and spend a quick hour picking up clothes and toys for my growing kids.
The sale is enormous. I’ve had friends waiting in line first thing in the morning to grab a double stroller. I’ve gone in very pregnant, searching for last minute maternity clothes after somehow growing out of everything I had. And what a great feeling it is to spend less on infant clothes and equipment that you know you’ll only use for a few months.
So why are we writing about this on our blog? Stuff. New stuff. New clothes, new toys, new baby equipment… Think of all the items that we can keep out of landfills by giving a second life to used things. I’m able to get one step closer to a low-waste lifestyle.
Parent Talk is doing their part to help Needham Go Green by promoting reuse. They are also a paperless organization, which is something to feel good about.
Parent Talk’s Fall Sale will be held on Sunday, October 14that Newman Elementary School from 8:30 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. The event also includes a 12 p.m. bag sale, which for the first time will be offering reusable bags in place of paper bags.
Come support this local, all-volunteer community organization by attending their October 14th sale, or donating gently used items at one of their drop-off locations. You can help keep stuff out of landfills, while at the same time supporting an organization that brings us events like Flicks on the Field. See you there!
