Tomato Fest at the Needham Farmers Market
This Sunday, September 21st, Needham Farmers Market welcomes the annual Tomato Fest celebration. There will be a number of events throughout the day including: guess the weight of the tomato, identify the tomato variety, bring your ugliest tomato contest, share a tomato recipe bulletin board, tomato “saucy” coloring page activity, and vote for the best tomato taste test (at the Center Cafe). Chef Vanessa will be the Chef in the House host, and she will be making fresh chunky tomato sauce. Kids are also encouraged to answer the Farmers Buck question, “What is your favorite way to enjoy tomatoes?” Participating kids will receive $5 in Farmer’s Bucks to spend at any of the market’s vendors.
The Neighborhood Farm’s featured produce is butternut, acorn and delicata squash, Long Island cheese pumpkins, carnival squash, sunshine squash, and 20 varieties of garlic. MacArthur Farm’s featured produce is romano beans, acorn and butternut squash, Yukon gold, red bliss, and white potatoes, apples, cider, lettuce, beets, carrots, pumpkins, and 8″ mums (3 for $10).
